Orange Presents Identity Summit: Avatars and Identity - November 15th & 16th

On Friday, November 16, Orange Island will host a series of discussions by Second Life residents and community leaders on the nature of identity and avatars. Panels will address such topics as non-human avatars, avatars as personas, and avatars as personal brands. Speakers joining us on these panels include: Ordinal Malaprop, Torley Linden, Celebrity Trollop, Michi Lumin, and Forseti Svarog. In addition to the panels, open-ended discussion is encouraged during exhibits throughout the day. Everyone is welcome to listen, share, and discuss these fascinating issues.

Leading in to the Identity Summit, Orange Island is hosting an Avatar Showcase on the plaza at 10am Thursday November 15. Residents are invited to present their most unique and interesting avatar in this two hour event. The top three avatars will have their portraits made and displayed during one of the gallery exhibitions during the following day's discussions.

Orange Island is a community site sponsored by Orange to foster and encourage resident collaboration, innovation, and creativity. The Identity Summit is only the first in a series of Orange Presents discussion days, and is part of a robust events schedule that includes classes, games, exploration, and discussions. To get involved with the Orange community in Second Life, stop by the island and talk to the staff: Fandango Milena, Fab Outlander, and Moe Anderton. Events announcements and community opportunities are sent via SL group, Orange Island, and posted on our blog, http://www.orange-island.com/

September 15th, 2007 - 'Second Life: A Guide to Your Virtual World'

(Posted Sep 14th 2007 7:30AM by Akela Talamasca)
'Second Life: A Guide to Your Virtual World' is a new book by Brian A. White, and it's already available through Amazon.

It's got a release party on the 15th at Menorca, twice, at 11 AM - 1 PM, and again at 7 - 9p PM, featuring DJ Doubledown Tandino, musician JueL Resistance, and of course the author, Ansel Gasparini. Best of all, you can pick up free, designed-just-for-this-event items by Ginny Talamasca, Dragontat Zagato, and Colleen Desmoulins, some of SL's most influential designers!

I've not read this yet, but it seems pretty thorough, and I love the design of the cover. If you're interested in anything more than this post mentions, you may contact Iris Ophelia, coordinator of the event. (Thanks, Iris Ophelia & Second Life Insider)

Live Radio Show Broadcast from Texas & into Metaversatility - Feb 26 8pm (slt)

From the press release: "Bringing a great mixture of progressive electronica styles from Nu Jazz to Lounge and Hip-Hop, we will play their original material, as well as a selection of similar electronica from our favorite artists. Our avatars will be broadcasting from the KRTU complex on Metaversatility island. Come sit in and participate in an evening of discussion, interview, and great electronic music." http://slurl.com/secondlife/Metaversatility/190/157/32/

Bliargh Dada (host) & Adri Saarinen (Metaversatility coordinator) conducted a listening session & livechat with A.M. Architect (electronic musician) and delivered a great radio show (which was broadcast from 91.7fm San Antonio, Texas and into Second Life). I really enjoyed the format of the show (with a studio/living room setting) that weaved from talks about A.M. Architect's music and influences to playing his original tracks mixed in with music to fit the same flavor of genres.

Lots of friends and familiar faces came out for the show including Frogg Marlowe, Ute Hicks, Moo Money, & Celebrity Trollop.

Can't wait to check out more shows and the musicians they feature.
