Frontline: Digital Nation - 90 minute Documentary airs Tuesday, February 2nd

Ark Media and PBS-FRONTLINE: our 90-minute documentary "Digital Nation" will be airing on PBS on Tuesday (February 2) at 9 PM EST (check your local PBS listing).

This unprecedented FRONTLINE project tackles what it means to be human in the digital age, from the way we think, work, interact and connect to the way we fight wars. We visit lots of places -- labs performing fMRIs on heavy multitaskers to a wired middle school in the south Bronx; an internet addiction boot camp in Korea to a massive American corporation holding meetings via avatars; a controversial Army recruiting center outside Philly to an Air Force base in the Nevada desert where pilots fly planes remotely.

We have an extremely rich and robust website, full of content we've been gathering over the past eighteen months as well tons of videos sent in by people across the globe. It's unlike any FRONTLINE website before, and we hope you can check it out after the broadcast. Douglas Rushkoff, one of our correspondents, will be hosting an online roundtable with many of the people you'll see in the documentary. We'll also continue to update the site with fresh video, and as always we invite any and all comments about any part of the site or the documentary.  pbsdigitalnation.org

Cheers,
Ark Media

The 10 Best Songs from Flight of the Conchords [Vids]

From a bit of Korean karaoke to the fourth-most epic trap showdown New Zealand has ever seen. Flight of the Conchords top 10 videos (as of 2009, from their HBO tv show)

"During its two seasons on the air, Flight of the Conchords went from being a quiet cult hit to a full-blown pop culture phenomenon. Appealing to comedy snobs and mainstream viewers alike, the show has proven that there's still a market for subtle, intelligent humor. The fact that its songs are funny and catchy as hell doesn't hurt either. For the recently completed second season, creators/stars Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement wisely gave their supporting cast more to do -- meaning that fan favorite characters such as Murray, Dave and Mel suddenly found themselves with a lot more screen time, much of which was spent breaking into song.

There's some validity to the argument that the songs featured in the second season are a bit weak compared to those in the first. But here's the thing you should realize in order to be more constructive with your feedback: Bret and Jemaine only had a few months to come up with new material, as opposed to the years they spent honing the songs that appeared initially. Alas, it appears that the rumors that Bret and Jemaine only wanted to do two seasons of the show are true. The future of Flight of the Conchords looks dire, but its musical legacy isn't -- here's a look at the 10 best songs from the show whose multilayered jokes pack a greater impact upon each subsequent listening..." - By Chris Cummins

Doubledown's TV Picks - Life on Mars

Life on Mars is an American remake of the BBC series. A present-day car accident mysteriously sends a detective back to the 1970s.

Everyone loves the show; it's 1973 all over again! The music, the attitude, the swagger. Starring Jason O'Mara, Michael Imperioli, Harvey Keitel, it's currently in Season 1 airing on ABC and can be seen on http://www.abc.com/.

Make sure to check out the soundtrack too.

Doubledown's TV Picks - The Simpsons - "Mypods and Boomsticks"

The Simpsons
Mypods and Boomsticks
Season 20 : Ep. 721:51

The Simpson family takes a trip to the Mapple Store at the Springfield Mall where Lisa gets her very own Mypod, and Bart interrupts an announcement from Steve Mobbs with his own voiceover, causing pandemonium to break loose in the store. On his way home from the mall, Bart narrowly escapes punishment and befriends a Muslim boy named Bashir. Homer becomes suspicious of Bart’s new friend and invites Bashir, his mother (guest voice Shohreh Aghdashloo, “24“) and his father over for dinner so he can investigate their supposed anti-American sentiments. Having already offended Bashir and his family at dinner, Homer goes to their home to apologize, but he instead snoops around their house, a la Jack Bauer, and uncovers what he believes to be a terrorist plot to blow up the Springfield Mall. The race is on as Homer tries to warn the residents of Springfield about the impending disaster.

Doubledown's TV Picks - Flight of the Conchords - The Bowie Song (live)

As Second Life continues to be all "Second Lifey"....
sidenote: can i trademark "Second-Lifey" or does Linden Research Inc. get that?

either way... SL is happening, but so is real life. Obama won, the universe's economy is collapsing, and there's some really friggin' awesome TV on the boob tube these days.

So, my recommendation is to turn off Second Life for a while once in awhile, and go watch some TV instead.

I'm creating "Doubledown's TV Picks" on the blog. It will feature real life TV favorites as well as Second Life TV favorites. I do believe as the future moves onward the line will become more and more blended. Please, I would LOVE comment responses from Second Lifers that are fans of the shows I mention.

Today: Flight of the Conchords
Season 1 is completed and on HBO
Season 2 is coming Jan/Feb 2009

Here is a video from their live show (not their TV show) and an awesome tune. Enjoy
