When I received this email, I immediately thought of Second Life and it's users.
From my email inbox:
Internet Evolution is about to embark on a truly groundbreaking new video project, and I wanted to see if you would like to get involved.
We're looking to create a video case study about a company embarking on
an important new IT project in the second half of this year.
However, unlike most case studies (which take place after the fact) our
case study will follow the project from planning, through
implementation, to trouble shooting and completion.
Projects that we are highly interested in covering include: cloud
computing; analytics; social media in a business environment; security;
or an upgrade to a company's computing and middleware systems.
The core of the case study will be three short (five minute)
documentaries covering the before, during, and after of your project.
These documentaries will be filmed by our professional film crew on
location at your company premises at a time that is convenient to you.
Each one takes about a morning to film.
We'll also outfit you with a video camera and the training required to upload occasional project updates.
The purpose of the case study is to highlight the great work that IT
professionals such as yourself do every day. Our goal is to highlight
your success for others to learn from. And, of course, as well as making
you a star (and a corporate hero!) we'll also compensate you for your
time.
Interested? Please drop me a line at ferraro@internetevolution.com if you would like to know more about this exciting new Internet Evolution project!
Sincerely,
Nicole Ferraro

eJamming AUDiiO 3.0 Makes History in Second Life
eJamming AUDiiO 3.0 Makes History in Second Life
Musicians Perform Live Together From Three Distant Locations Using eJamming’s CD-Quality Real-Time Platform
“We’re excited that bands in Second Life have discovered our latest software and that one of the top in-world promoters reached out to us to promote this event,” said Gail Kantor, eJamming Co-Founder. “Achieving a low-bandwidth high resolution multi-player audio service is what we’ve strived for all along. With 3.0 we’ve nailed it. That bands are using eJamming in SL is unbelievably gratifying.”
“Kevin M. Thomas, one of my musicians, turned me on to this new version of eJamming,” Tara Lopes of MUSIC NOT POLITICS offered. “Now, several of my musicians have started using it, and I feel privileged introducing eJamming AUDiiO to the entire SL community.”
Netcasting in SL is a natural progression toward eJamming AUDiiO’s JamCast feature, which allows real-world listeners on any Internet-connected device to attend live eJamming sessions. Today, artists typically stay close to their fans using social networks. JamCasting through eJamming’s multiplex AUDiiO platform extends the growing trend of online music distribution – focused on live, geographically dispersed sessions, further empowering musicians.
eJamming AUDiiO 3.0 is downloadable from www.ejamming.com/learn-more/.
The live performance can be heard at http://fcmcradio.com.
About eJamming
eJamming Inc. is pioneering live audio streaming technologies that bring musicians and music lovers together in new ways. eJamming AUDiiO is the first software as a service that enables all musicians and singers worldwide with a computer and broadband connection to network and play music together in real time over the Internet, facilitating collaboration, social networking and music education.
eJamming was named a DEMOgod at DEMO 07 and has since received numerous accolades and awards including the OnHollywood 100, AlwaysOn 100 Finalist and technical achievement finalist in the South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Web Awards. eJamming’s co-founders were named among the “24 Top Technology Innovators” in Fortune magazine and eJamming AUDiiO was featured as one of Forbes’ “Top Ten ‘BreakOut!’ Business Ideas of 2009."

Soror Nishi at IBM - Tree of Trees - Saturday September 11th, 2010 - 12pm slt
The Event:
Saturday September 11th, 2010 - Starts at 12pm slt
Live Music/DJs:
Noon - Tasty Hax
1pm - Doubledown Tandino
3pm - The Born Again Pagans
SLURL http://slurl.com/secondlife/IBM%20Exhibit%20C/126/131/174
The Concept:
By Soror Nishi via sorornishi.blogspot.com
We all know that the tree has been a meeting place, a landmark, shelter and a source of warmth (firewood) and food (fruit) for a very long time and, globally.
It is no real surprise then to read.... “the commonest associations to it’s meaning are growth, life, unfolding of form in a physical and spiritual sense, development, growth from below upwards and from above downwards, the maternal aspect (protection, shade, shelter, nourishing fruits, source of life, solidity, permanence, firm-rootedness, but also being “rooted to the spot”), old age, personality, and finally death and rebirth.” [CGJung].
It was a symbol taken up in many an alchemical treatise to signify the development of The Work, the Opus, and was often called The Philosophical Tree as the gold (goal) was called The Philosophical Gold. It was said to grow out of the salt water with a golden trunk and seven branches with the sun and moon as fruit.
There are not many cultures who do not have a tree included either in a creation myth or a significant fairy story for, presumably, the tree was our first home or shelter. Even in places where no tree grows naturally, their imagery is included in myth.
“In so far as the tree symbolizes the Opus and the transformation process “tam ethice quam physice” (both morally and physically), it also signifies the life process in general. It’s identity with Mercurius, the spiritus vegetativus, confirms this view. Since the Opus is a life, death, and rebirth mystery, the tree as well acquires this significance and in addition the quality of wisdom...” [CGJung].
Well, this is just some philosophical background into why I have called my build at IBM Tree of Trees. Add to that my feeling for trees, in general, and it’s not so hard to see why I have spent three years trying to improve the basic bio-diversity of the very dodgy flora I first encountered when I came to SL.
I think my build at IBM is a sort of milestone, it says, well, this is how far I’ve got so far.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I have building it.

Chestnut's Choices 9/9 - 9/15 via New World Notes:
"On Saturday 9/11 at Noon soror Nishi's new exhibt Tree of Trees opens. Soror Nishi's work captivated my interest from the first time I saw it early in my SL experience. She uses Blender and Photoshop to make her pieces, preferring to paint textures rather than photograph them. Soror creates trees and landscapes but they are nothing like what you might expect to find in the countryside in the atomic world. Her colorful work is art that is only possible in the creative space of a virtual world.
Music for the Opening Party will be provided by DJ Tasty Hax beginning at noon with a show by DJ Doubledown Tandino at 1pm. At 3pm the fantastic live band The Born Again Pagans will entertain visitors to this otherworldy, colorful exhibit. I know you will enjoy this stunning exhibit as much as I did, especially with fantastic music as the backdrop to your experience. In IBM Exhibit C."

Second Life's Thriving Music Scene : LA Times
Second Life's Thriving Music Scene
By Laura Ferreiro, Special to the Los Angeles Times
Craig Lyons and other indie artists are leading the charge in the virtual online world. It's a way to earn a living, promote their music, expand their fan base and support causes they believe in.

Musician Craig Lyons poses with his avatar from Second Life.
"If I could get some bubbles, I'd be forever indebted," singer Craig Lyons tells the packed house at his Monday night gig. The crowd promptly complies, filling the room with bubbles while Lyons plays his tune "Under Water."
Two nights earlier, the audience made it snow as he strummed the chords to his song "Winter." Strangely enough, the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter has come to expect this type of supernatural behavior at his shows, which take place several times a week in Second Life, the virtual online world that allows users to interact with one another as avatars.
Despite declining media coverage after a few years of overexposure, Second Life lives on, and within its virtual borders a music scene has been thriving, with independent artists such as Lyons leading the charge. These artists are earning livings, promoting their music and supporting causes they believe in by performing in this virtual space, which has approximately 1 million users each month.
In addition to collecting fees from Second Life venues (there are more than 3,500 known to exist), musicians are often paid handsomely by fans who tip using the Second Life currency, Linden dollars, which is exchangeable for U.S. dollars via a number of websites. Users can buy and sell the currency at a fluctuating exchange rate that usually hovers around 265 Linden dollars to one U.S. dollar.
Lyons typically earns $100 to $200 per show, and he often plays as many as three gigs in one day for audiences logging into Second Life from different time zones. The 3-D virtual world was launched in 2003 by Linden Lab, a company founded by technology guru Philip Rosedale, who was named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world in 2007. In Linden Lab's alternate universe, people can interact with one another, teleport themselves to exotic virtual locales, buy houses, cars and clothing and amuse themselves with countless forms of virtual entertainment.
Lyons, who has released four albums of introspective pop-rock songs that have appeared on "So You Think You Can Dance," "The Real World" and other shows, believes Second Life provides an ideal platform for artists to broaden their fan bases by reaching people around the globe they wouldn't be able to connect with under normal touring circumstances.
"It feels really nice to reach people who wouldn't be able to see these shows otherwise — be it single parents, physically handicapped people who can't get out of the house, or people who can't afford a $15 cover charge and drinks at the bar," he says. The Ohio native's easy charm and charisma heighten his appeal in this interactive environment, as do his matinee-idol good looks, which incite swooning from several fans.
Second Life concertgoers attend gigs as avatars at virtual venues that often resemble "real-life" nightclubs or outdoor amphitheaters. The performances often include live streaming videos from the artists' own studios, while the performers' avatars play on the virtual stage below. During the show, fans mingle and use a local chat feature to applaud, comment on the tunes and even flirt with one another.
It doesn't faze Lyons that the fans filling the rooms are avatars. "Some people are selective about their fan bases. I think that's crazy," he says. "They don't connect the dots and see that they are real people having a real experience." A three-dimensional "widget" on the side of the stage connects fans to Lyons' music on iTunes, as well as his MySpace and Facebook pages — all of which have seen an increase in traffic since he started performing regularly in Second Life.
Helen Harbison, who regularly attends Lyons' virtual gigs, believes the intera
ctive experience that the virtual platform provides can actually surpass that of traditional live gigs. "Gigs in Second Life are a special experience," says Harbison, who lives in Dublin, Ireland. "The interaction between musician and audience makes it special, something that you just don't get at a show in a packed-out venue or bar in real life."
Since Second Life's launch, a handful of major acts, including Duran Duran (Doubledown Edit: Duran Duran never performed in Second Life and press continues to make this error), Suzanne Vega and Ben Folds, have performed or held events in the virtual platform, but none has made a broad impact. "Over the years, Second Life didn't match the hype," says Nelson Gayton, executive director of the Center for Management of Enterprise in Media, Entertainment and Sports at UCLA. "The technology wasn't quite caught up with what people envisioned it to be."
But now, he says, "There's no reason to believe that this isn't a viable platform to experience or promote music. Why not perform in a virtual space instead of going through the challenges of performing in a live space? It's another platform to promote your talent and whatever it is you want to express so people can experience what you have to say."
Missouri indie rockers the Follow, who also perform regularly in Second Life, recognize the convenience these virtual gigs offer fans, and see it as the next logical step in the evolution of social networking. "It's so easy in Second Life — you can teleport your friends immediately, and you don't have to get dolled up," says bassist Amy Rickertsen.
Drummer Mat Matlack adds: "Once people experience Second Life, it will drive people there. The music scene will give them something to do and create an environment for social mixing. It's Facebook on steroids."
Lyons, a self-professed environmentalist, points out another beneficial aspect of this type of virtual gigging. "I legitimately think that it's the most sustainable method of performing for an artist these days, both environmentally — because you can reach the entire globe without burning gas — and financially." Lyons streams most of his Second Life gigs from his Santa Monica home studio using a basic Web cam and a microphone.
He also created an entire music video in Second Life for his ambitious, strings-laden cover of the Beatles' "Across the Universe." The 6-minute video features the avatars of friends, fans and musicians who volunteered their time and talents to create the video.
"Right now, [performing in Second Life] is kind of like the Wild West, but I don't think that will be the case soon," says Lyons. "I think it will be widely accepted and possibly even necessary for any kind of artist in the near future."

RMG Idol Competition: Rules updated: 05/10/10
From the starting pool, Contestants will compete against each other to determine who continues on with the contest. Weekly eliminations will be based equally on Popular Vote and Judging. Popular Vote will be conducted through Voting Boards at the host venue, as well as at participating Venues and Sims across Second Life. Top Vote getters that also receive the majority of votes by the Judging Panel, will move on to the following weeks show.
As contestants are eliminated each week, remaining contenders will be given the opportunity for more time in front of the judges and audience. CONTESTANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PERFORM THEIR BEST ORIGINAL OR COVER SONGS! Due to Performance Rights Obligations, Artists with Original Music will be favored by the Judging Panel. As Audience Voting is an equal part of the competition, all artists are encouraged to "bring out their crowd" to the performance venue or satellite stages, where Voting Boards shall be placed. Anyone can vote as often as they like for each artist on the RMG Idol Vote Board, at a cost of 50 L$ per vote. Proceeds from Voting Boards will be split, with each contestant receiving 25L$ for each vote cast on their behalf.
To allow fairness to all contestants, voting will commence immediately following each show, and will be open until 11:59 pm SLT the following Sunday. Votes will be tabulated for each artist with the Elimination held at the beginning of the subsequent week's show on Monday. The final 2 contestants will be selected based on Popular Vote from the 2 week voting period prior to the Finale.
The competition shall run from Monday, July 12 through August 16, until the Top 2 Contestants are selected. The "Finale Show" will be held on August 30, 2010. The Judges Panel will choose the Final Winner based on the following criteria:
Vocal Talent
Musical Ability
Personality
Originality
This same criteria will also be used by Judges throughout the competition. Voting will make up 50% of the competition, with the final 2 contestants chosen by Popular Votes. Then, the final 2 contestants will each perform a 15 minute set for the Judges, who will deliberate to determine the winner, based on this criteria.
Judges will include non-Second Life executives from Relax Music Group and Halogen Records. Guest Judges from the RL Music Industry will also participate. Bones Writer from Trax Live Music Resource Center shall serve as the SL Judge. The competition will be hosted by Trick Rembrandt (Patrick Rule, RMG Co-CEO) and broadcast on IRMGRadio.com.

All Contestants will receive airplay and exposure though IRMGRadio.com, RMGIdolSL.com, and participating partners web sites. A national publicity campaign conducted by Halogen Records will also occur throughout the competition to expose all the participating artists to the RL Music Media. As this is a promotional opportunity based in RL, it will bring the Live Music Community in Second Life a great deal of exposure with the real world entertainment industry. Relax Music Group is committed to exposing the Thriving SL Music Scene throughout the Music Industry, giving deserving SL performers opportunities to advance their careers in RL, as well as RL performers their introduction to the SL Music Scene.
Show Format:
RMG Idol will be held at various venues throughout Second Life and broadcast on IRMGRadio.com online and across the grid. The show format will be hosted by an SL Personality, with each Contestant given an equal amount of time to perform. Multiple Venues, Sims, and Shops will be encouraged to Sponsor RMG Idol, host Voting boards, receiving mentions in the IRMGRadio.com stream in exchange for carrying the competition. Again, Voting will commence following each weeks show, allowing people ample time to vote for their favorite performer. Eliminations will be announced at the beginning of each week's show, commencing on July 23.
The Show Host and Judges will be linked to the broadcast via Skype, with each judge weighing in on the merits of each artist. Judges will comprise members of Relax Music Group, Halogen Records, and Distinguished Members of the RL and SL Music Community. While Voting will predominate the majority of a contestant's score, the Winning Contestant will require a combination of winning votes and Judge's Consensus.
The RMG Idol Winner, will be offered a recording contract with Halogen Records and featured on an upcoming Compilation CD release. The Winner and 5 Runner's Up will receive an 8 week Radio Promotion Campaign through RMGDigital.NET, receiving airplay across their network of Registered Programmers at College and Public Broadcast Stations and Internet Streams. Timed for promotion throughout the Fall College Radio Season, the Winner and Runner's Up will receive Prime Airplay Exposure, generating even more interest for the Live Music Scene in Second Life.

During open call events, each entrant will have a total time of up to 5 minutes to perform their song, and accept review by the judging panel. All performers must complete a Registration Form at http://www.RMGIdol.com, and meet the minimum performance requirements. Registrants will be scheduled to perform at the specific time assigned by RMG Idol staff, based on the order of registration. Deadline for registrations is 11:59pm SL on Friday, June 18, 2010. RMG Idol is open to any Second Life musical performer.
All participants throughout the competition, will need the ability to log into the RMG Idol stream, and encode their performance during their alloted time. While the Open Call is open to any SL Resident, it is recommended that all registrants have at least some experience performing in Second Life. There is no cost to participate in the RMG Idol Competition.
Up to Twenty Contestants shall be selected for the competition phase of the contest at Open Call events. As RMG Idol is a competition based on Talent, performers from all walks of the SL Music Scene are encouraged to enter this competition. Each Performer will have the opportunity to perform 1 song for the Judging Panel, and receive constructive criticizm from each judge. IT IS ENCOURAGED THAT THE ARTIST PERFORM THEIR BEST ORIGINAL OR COVER SONG FOR THE OPEN CALL.
The Judging Panel, at its sole disgression, shall select the Contestants that will move on to participate in the RMG Idol Competition.
All Runners-Up will be invited back for a Final Performance, with the Winner closing the show with a final song. The first place and runner up winners shall receive prizes as listed above.
Please note: Finalist and Runners Up must provide Original Recordings, or procure Performance Rights to any Cover Material that is Released, Distributed and Promoted following the RMG Idol Competition.

Fair Use Gets a Fair Shake in Second Life - (EFF.org)
Fair Use Gets a Fair Shake in Second Life
Commentary by Eva Galperin of EFF.orgKudos to Linden Lab, which has just release an update to the Terms of Service for their virtual world, Second Life, that includes language that will protect fair use of screenshots and machinima. The new Snapshot and Machinima Content License grants Linden Lab and other users of Second Life a license to use “in snapshots and machinima your Content that is displayed in-World in publicly accessible areas of the Service.”
Machinima, which refers works that use real-time 3-D graphics engines to generate computer animation, could have presented a special problem for Second Life, where every individual object in view is potentially a different person’s intellectual property. Getting permission from so many owners of IP in order to create a machinima is potentially nightmarish. Instead of running from the new kinds of fair use enabled by new technologies, Linden Lab has embraced them. The new license allows Second Life users to reserve the rights to their creations by placing them in areas that are not publicly accessible. Second Life makes tools available to users that allow them to restrict access to their Virtual Land and its contents. The rules are simple and intuitive: if you don’t want people taking pictures of your floating city/dancing bear/epic space opera, don’t leave your floating city/dancing bear/epic space opera in a public place.
Linden Lab’s behavior should be an object lesson to movie studios and major record labels, who have alienated their own fans by trying to thwart new fair uses as they come along, whether through DRM or DMCA takedowns. Linden Lab has shown that there are innovative new ways to give the green-light to fair uses while still giving users the freedom to protect their creations. We hope that movie studios and major record labels are taking notes, because Linden Lab is showing them how it’s done.

Slim Girl Fat and SpyvSpy Productions Present *Moon*
spyvspyaeon — "Lunar deity is a god or goddess associated with or symbolizing the moon. These deities can have a variety of functions and traditions depending upon the culture, but they are often related to or an enemy of the solar deity. Some cultures relate the moon as a Female, although is known as a male more common worldwide.
The Moon through the edges has been a significant inspiration and creativity of many artists around the world. SlimGirlFat as achieved a great song and the starting inspiration to this creation.
Lunar Deity is represented on this work as the Dryad connecting the entity with the nature. I should frame this work between both of their own simplistic and the complex of its composition but I rather leave you the final judgment. don't blame me ツ. Inspired by Enigma video clips (I'm a big fan of them) I've tried an approach to a SL Machinima to their kinda videos. This video is nothing more than a thought caught in no where place no where in time, some sort of a let it flow (with some few basic knowledge).
Most of the special fx's are made on After effects and I want to mention that the glass breaking on the start it's a precomposed set already build on 3DS max and exported to AE, royalty free. The rest I just applied a bunch of coolest effects build by my own, from foam through cc cylinder (warp drive) and some 3D depth field with some motion blur. I hope you enjoy so much as I this new release. "

Role-Playing Banned from Second Life in new Terms of Service
In what could only be a spiting vengeful move to cause confusion and mass panic across the grid, Linden Lab has announced that "Role-Playing" is now an unacceptable form of use inside the virtual world platform Second Life. All inworld role-play avatars and groups must cease and desist. Linden Lab says that the bold move was due to "persistent user complaints." Many users were simply unsure if the avatar he or she was talking to was really real or not. Other new Second Life users simply did not understand the concept of an 'avatar' and therefore Linden Lab wanted to make SL an experience everyone can comprehend. Several Linden Lab employees seen inworld were overheard saying "first we're banning the Goreans, then the dragons, then the steampunk freaks, then the vampires, then the furries, then the tinies... we'll leave the prostitutes for last... because we'll need proof first that is not their real life profession."
On March 31st, 2010, Gridizens were welcomed during login by a Linden Lab Terms of Service Update Agreement. Section 25.2.b.4 of the Terms of Service states
( Am I allowed anymore? )
On March 31st, 2010, Gridizens were welcomed during login by a Linden Lab Terms of Service Update Agreement. Section 25.2.b.4 of the Terms of Service states
"All residents must be who they truly are in real life. Any Second Life user who is caught not being who they are in real life may result in suspension or account termination. Linden Lab will begin enforcing this policy effective immediately."Linden Lab employees dressed their avatars in police officer's uniforms to show a public display of authority inworld and went swarming across the grid with tazers in hand. The first role-play group targeted were... basically... all "avatars"... who have since had their homes derezzed and their groups deleted.

How to Stream Your Music Into Second Life - Six Software Source Clients Compared by Joe Bear
How to Stream Your Music Into Second Life
Six Software Source Clients Compared
By Joe Bear
Six Software Source Clients Compared
By Joe Bear
Were you aware that your music can be streamed into Second Life using the same technology as internet radio? Bringing your music to this new audience requires a Shoutcast source client, which sends your music to a streaming server, which subsequently rebroadcasts your music to all the listeners in Second Life.
This article lists the leading choices in Shoutcast/Icecast source clients. This source client is the piece of software that runs on your computer, connecting the music you play with the streaming server.
What it does
The Shoutcast/Icecast streaming source client takes audio input from a program or hardware device, encodes it into a media stream, and sends the media stream on to a streaming server. Each step of this process requires configuration, and each program differs in the specifics of where you may find these settings. However, the settings themselves are fairly universal.
Music source
The input to the source client may come from a media player such as iTunes, Winamp, or Windows Media Player, or it may also come from a hardware device connected to your computer -- such as a mixer connected to a sound card or even an integrated laptop microphone. Your chosen source client will present a list of possible inputs from which you can choose to broadcast.
Encoding
Some source clients may be able to encode into multiple media formats. However, for compatibility with Second Life, you will need to use mp3. The Second Life viewer on your listeners' end does not support WMA, AAC, Ogg, or other formats. Further, you will find that if you try to use the most pristine mp3 encoding settings, your listeners will experience skips in the stream. It is best not to use anything higher than 44.1 kHz, 64 kbps, stereo. You should be able to find these settings grouped together.
Specifying the stream server
Lastly, you will need to specify the Shoutcast/Icecast streaming server to which the source client will connect. This will be in the form of a URL or an IP Address, a Port number, and a Password. Some streaming clients allow you to build a 'library' of servers, each with their own URL, port, and password. This is handy if you regularly perform at a number of venues. Each venue will have its own server. This allows you to, once configured, merely select a given venue's server from a list, and have all the values set at once. If your source client does not have this feature, you will need to manually enter this data every time for each venue.
Criteria
For each listed software streaming client, I list the price, where you can obtain it, what platform it runs upon, and other attributes. After reading this article, you should be ready to choose a streaming source client that meets your needs.
Before I list the choices, I will first define what the various attributes mean.
Operating System (OS) - This tells you what operating system the streaming source client is compatible with. There are choices for Windows, Mac OS, Linux, and other UNIX-like OSs.
Plugin vs. Standalone - Some Shoutcast/Icecast source clients are 'plugins', which operate inside of other programs. An example is the Shoutcast DSP Plugin, which installs 'into' Winamp as a host. Other source clients run in their own window, providing all needed functionality themselves.
Record functionality - Some source clients will also record (or 'archive') your stream. The stream is not only sent on to the streaming server, but it also is written to your computer's disk as an mp3 file. This allows you to play back your stream at a later date.
Presenting the candidates:

If you are just getting started in streaming your music into Second Life, I recommend that you start with butt. Silly name, I know. However, it is free, does everything you want it to do, and runs the same way on any computer you're likely to have. Plus, it is an open source program, meaning that its future is pretty much assured.
Any of the other choices would be fine as well. They all work pretty much hiccup-free. If your needs are unique, there may be some reason to prefer another over butt.
Myself, I use Reaper with the Shoutcast plugin. Reaper is a full-featured music production DAW like Pro Tools, Logic, Sonar, etc. In fact, it was my DAW before I started streaming into Second Life. The fact that Reaper is from the guy the guy that invented internet radio (as well as Winamp, Gnutella, and other modern necessities) holds strong sway with me.
Get going!
You really can't go wrong with any of the above. Just grab one, grab the free Second Life viewer, create a free Second Life account, log on, and start performing for the eager Second Life audiences!
I hope you join us in this journey to a strange and wonderful new world. In the meantime, you may wish to do some early exploring on your own - it is free to get started! Just click the link below:

In Case You Missed it: Second Life Press Highlights from the Week of February 22
In Case You Missed it: Second Life Press Highlights from the Week of February 22
Viewer 2 launched in beta on Tuesday, with some great press attention. One of my favorite pieces was Robert Scoble's video interview with M Linden, which you can watch over at Building 43. Robert took the time to visit the Lab on Battery Street here in San Francisco last Friday to film the interview, and he and M had a great conversation. Mitch Wagner (aka the Copper Robot) also published a thoughtful review of Viewer 2 (and a follow-up) for Computerworld after having interviewed T Linden inworld. There's so much more good stuff on this topic - including great posts from well-known Second Life bloggers, so please do check out the archive for more. Next week, you can check out Amanda Linden and Esbee Linden on Wednesday's episode of Metanomics, where they'll be talking more about Viewer 2 and the beta launch.
If you're following @SLBallyhoo on Twitter, you may already seen a great CNN Money segment about Second Life DJ Doubledown Tandino as part of their 'Best Job's series. Congratulations on the great coverage, Doubledown!

Buddhist magazine the Shambhala Sun carried an article sharing one Buddhist's experience exploring Second Life. In it, the author (pictured right, from the site) writes that he joined a discussion with about 20 other avatars and says, "For me this was great: I hadn’t met many Buddhists in the real world so it had been hard to discuss things I was curious about." This gets at one of the great things about Second Life - the opportunity to connect with (and learn from) others in a meaningful way that you may not have the chance to in the physical world.
Not Second Life-specific, but interesting nonetheless: this week, the AFP covered research from Stanford University's Virtual Human Interaction Lab, exploring the impact that having an avatar can have on the rest of our lives. You can find the AFP piece over at France24, and check out Stanford University News' coverage of it as well.
Also this week, Ethical Corporation published a post about a new book called The Responsibility Revolution, which will be released on March 15. Linden Lab is among the companies profiled in the book, and some of our internal tools like the Love Machine are presented.

As always, check out the press archive and follow @SLBallyhoo on Twitter for more Second Life coverage highlights - there's more coming!

SL Shakespeare Company Changes Its Name to Metaverse Shakespeare Company
SL Shakespeare Company Changes Its Name to Metaverse Shakespeare Company
by: Lora Constantine
The SL Shakespeare Company (SLSC) today has finalized its name change process, and will now officially be known as The Metaverse Shakespeare Company (MSC).
“In its three years, the SL Shakespeare Company has accomplished its goal of spreading Shakespeare throughout SL via reviving his theatre and architecture on SL, and promoting affiliate events, from discussion groups to Renaissance music to non-SLSC sims,” said Ina Centaur, Artistic Director of the Metaverse Shakespeare Company. “Our new brand name better reflects our expanded mission to take Shakespeare to the metaverse—beyond just Second Life, but also OpenSim, WOW, Entropia, and other multiuser virtual worlds. Moreover, it frees up the general name of ‘SL Shakespeare’ for others to use, to continue to imbue SL with that aqua vitae of Shakespeare.”

Announcing the Linden Endowment for the Arts
In the upcoming months, it is our pleasure to take a more active role in encouraging the arts inside of Second Life. We are excited to announce the creation of a Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA) program which will help support, encourage, and highlight Second Life artists and their work. We hope that the collaboration between Linden Lab and the wealth of talented Second Life artists will contribute to a vibrant new chapter for the arts in Second Life.
The Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA) program's goal is twofold:
Getting Involved
Whether you're interested in joining the committee or simply have a useful suggestion to share, don't be shy—go ahead and submit a LEA Committee Application or post your suggestions below. We are looking for a small but dedicated group of individuals who are willing to make an ongoing time commitment to this program. Got other thoughts? Post 'em below!
We can't wait to start working with the arts community on this tremendous endeavor. Stay tuned to the Community Blog as more information becomes available!
