New World Notes Advertises IMVU Advertising Avatar Like Avatar From *Avatar* on Article About Second Life Advertising Avatar Like Avatar From *Avatar*
I'm so confused.... this is a screen capture of New World Notes, showing a screen capture of a Second Life webpage. On that Second Life page is an ad for an IMVU ad featuring a blue Avatar (to coincide with the movie "Avatar"). Ironically, on the New World Notes page happened to be another IMVU ad featuring the same blue Avatar.
I've got the Avatar blues. All these blue ads makes me finally want to click on that big-breasted Evony ad (which is probably showing up to the right hand side of my blog)

5 Things Every Band Should Know About Twitter (via TwtTip)
5 Things Every Band Should Know About Twitter
via TwtTip
By Owen Kelly of The Indie Digest. Follow him @ojkelly.
Twitter provides a unique opportunity to everyone that has never really existed before. Not only do you have the ability to follow every minute detail of your favorite band, but you can also have a conversation with them.
It’s often been said that twitter is like a bar full of people. You can listen or jump in with any conversation at the bar. Keep this in mind when you tweet.
If you just blurt out “Click here to see my new video!” Then you closely resemble the people handing out crappy pamphlets at the train station, that end up in the bin seconds later.
Anyone attempting to promote a product, be it a song, CD, or even a book, needs to be aware the usual rules do not apply on Twitter. It has evolved with its own set of rules and etiquette. To successfully promote your product you need to be aware of a few things.

The Artist's Guide to Marketing Yourself and Networking in Second Life

By Jeffrey Lipsky from ArtCalendar (The business magazine for visual artists)
In this article, we’re going to explore some ways you’ll be able to hit the ground running with marketing yourself in SL’s virtual art scene. There are many similarities to real life when it comes to presenting yourself to the inworld audiences of curators, collectors and other artists. For instance, there’s no better way to get your art in front of the right people than through word-of-mouth and networking. Incorporating both virtual and real world sensibilities into your marketing plan can be a powerful combination.

Real Life in Second Life: RL Businesses Must Go Beyond SL Advertising by SLentrepreneur Magazine's Feldpar Epstein
SLentrepreneur Magazine The big ticket names – Pontiac, Adidas, Reebok, AOL, BMW, Aloft - seem to come - and then go. More to the point, they rush in with a big, splashy musical number and then take one of two routes out: they leave in a huff and a flurry of media attention, or they fade into nothingness before disappearing in the night. It seems that the louder a business yells about their entry in Second Life, the more likely it is that they will soon depart without fulfilling their objectives. These big-name businesses rely on conventional media to make a big noise about their entries into Second Life – and they shout for all to hear that they have left again. A Second Life build can merely be an excuse to get quick cheap media coverage - and for that an exit is just as good as an entrance.
On the other hand, there are just as many – if not more – businesses coming into Second Life with little or no fanfare - and staying long term. These companies are often not using Second Life as an advertising vehicle – or at least, not exclusively. Instead, they are using Second Life for their own purposes, and the builds they create, and the people they bring to Second Life, generate the Second Life community’s interest in the business. IBM and Cisco have developed facilities in Second Life for their own people to interact and collaborate with and these have been better tools for exposure than any unimaginative and sterile advertising-only build could ever hope to be. And by extension, they also have additional benefits not traditionally associated with advertising.
Another case in point is the CPA Island (http://www.cpaisland.com/) build. The MACPA (Maryland Certified Practicing Accountants) run conferences here on a regular basis; CPAs can attend these conferences in Second Life to earn CPE credit (this is a points system for the ongoing education of CPAs). The MACPA have engaged speakers from across the globe to lecture on a wide variety of topics; they started in the middle of this year, and the conferences have been so successful that they plan to continue into the foreseeable future. It has also raised the profile of CPAs within the consciousness of Second Life users.
As a counterpoint to companies that do well in Second Life because they are looking to do more than just jam advertising into people’s mouths, there is at least one notable company which has been successful in using Second Life as a more traditional advertising vehicle. Contrary to popular wisdom, Coca Cola have not withdrawn their presence from Second Life – in fact, they chose not to have a permanent presence in Second Life, choosing instead to rent space from Crayon for the duration of their campaign. Their intention was always to have temporary builds that would last the lifetime of each campaign. Indeed, the entire Coca Cola campaign was run with full intent and self-awareness. They determined their criteria for success before the campaign began. They worked with the existing market, instead of working against it or ignoring it entirely. They measured their successes according to their criteria. They are now spending a period of time learning from both the successes and failures of their campaign before they attempt to put another one together. The whole project was more like a well-run scientific experiment and less like a traditional marketing campaign.
Key points:
*Second Life can be used as an environment to be utilized for
interaction, collaboration and training of your staff. This
use doubles as a bit of advertising for your company that might prove
palatable to the general public.
* Using Second Life as an advertising-only vehicle is relatively
pointless unless you are willing to experiment somewhat rigorously
and learn from your mistakes.

I just want to mention...... I am there for YOU
This is simply to spread the word to you, and possibly that word will be spread onward.
I've written several scripts (now 4 months of work) which are my server auto-promotion tools.... i will divulge nothing more because they are extremely awesome scripts I made, and I would never sell them, and pretty much not even want to explain what they are doing.... but trust me, the tools I've created are nothing but GOOD for whichever parcel I am standing on, it causes ZERO lag, there is no form of seedy data collection. (Most people seem to assume I must be using some sort of bot system which auto spams to 1000s of groups or some other nasty method). Believe me, it has NOTHING to do with that.
ANYHOOOOOO.... lately, people may have been seeing me show up to their party, venue, or club, with an attached floating box near me. I come into the venue, sit, and just dont say a word. Some managers and hosts don't care or mind, some get suspicious and IM me, some eject me, some eject and ban me.... either way it doesnt matter, all are fine. It is their land, and have full rights to.
However, I want to mention, that when I come in and do this, I am dramatically helping the venue/land I'm standing in, and also AFK, not paying attention to SL, and probably watching TV.
When I see a good event about to happen, but know I'm not involved in SL or my computer during that time, I tend to drop my avatar off at a venue, and in essence have my auto scripts run on my avatar. They enhance the land in the short term and long term.
In exchange for doing this, I need to have a small floating box attached to me.
All-in-all I was spending the last few months trying to explain one-on-one what O was actually doing to help when venue managers ask. It's just getting too time consuming for me to try to explain the methods I am doing to help by dropping my avatar off at an event. It looks suspicious if you do not know me, so that is why I understand an ejection from the land.
Anyway, just wanted to say, that if you see me doing this, showing up, not saying a word, and sitting at one spot with a small floating box near me, it is 110% to HELP the venue, the land, and the performer. There is nothing suspicious going on. There is nothing spammy related, nothing occurring to make your venue look bad, theres nothing that causes lag, and im not doing any tactics that aren't on the level. The ONLY thing i am doing is using my AFK time and server to HELP the venue, .. rather than just logging off....
Please do what you will as venue owners, managers, and performers. IF i am there and afk with a box on my head, i am working FOR you.... if anyone ejects me I totally wont take any offense to it at all, and I understand, because I do realize I am doing this without asking and without explanation. I am hoping my trustworthy reputation and community support activist reputation will allow people simply to be okay with me and think
"whatever the heck he's doin over there he's helping, not hurting, so just leave him there, and dont eject/ban him because he wont explain what he's doing. Doubledown is there helping us."

The Subscribe-O-Matic
Posted Aug 10th 2007 2:37AM by Akela Talamasca of Second Life Insider
I'd never heard of Synthetik before this, but they're ready for stardom with the release of the Subscribe-O-Matic, which sounds wonderful. Tired of having to get people to subscribe to your Group just to send them updates and notices? The Subscribe-O-Matic takes care of that by allowing anyone at all to join your list at the touch of a kiosk.
There are a number of reasons to use the Subscribe-O-Matic, and the pricing plan sounds reasonable, so check out the particulars at the site, and someone please let me know if this works as advertised!
(Thanks, MSo! & Akela)
