Brad Reason: 15 years of Original Music now Posted

Brad%20ReasonQuantcast

Over the past 15 years, I created music.
Barely anyone has ever heard the music I created during that time.
From 1996-2006, generally, no one has heard the original digital electronic music I made.

It's now 2010, so I decided to publicly display most of my music catalog for your listening pleasure. If you'd like, have a listen:
http://reverbnation.com/bradreason

I've added over 100 of my original digital electronica music creations from over a 15 year time span.
I would LOVE it if anyone who chooses to listen lets me know what they like.  Because I have never had anyone listen to most of these tunes, I really have no idea what people will think.  If there's a song you like, PLEASE let me know.  Even if there's a part of a song you like, please let me know.

Each composition I created comes with a story; why I made it, how I made it, and who I made it for.... but I won't go into that, unless you ask me about a specific song, then I will go into details.

In the meantime, have fun listening, and exploring my music history and full catalog.

Traci Nubalo - The Word - A backstage view of the very best in Second Life music, art and events.

A backstage view of the very best in Second Life music, art and events.

About Traci:
Hello Second Life music and arts lovers!

I'm Traci Nubalo and I'm a refugee from the RL music business, formerly an artist manager, tour manager, concert promoter and music journalist.

This blog is my effort to report on what makes our Second Life music/art scene interesting. It's about the people that make the scene happen and how they work their magic to thrill us and inspire us with their writing, singing, playing and creating. Look at it as the backstage pass that most of us longed for and were never able to get our hands on.

---

Below is an interview Traci had with Harrie Skjellerup and POL Arida of "The Originals"

The Originals: "Gotta Wear Shades!"
by Traci Nubalo

"In mid-August of last year a grand experiment was mounted in the Second Life live music community. Scottish singer/songwriter POL Arida, relatively new to SL, noticed that the musicians making up the club scene were playing mostly “covers” (non-original copies of popular songs). POL is a talented and prolific songwriter, and he decided to try to make an attempt to encourage original musical content here on the grid.

The result was an ongoing project that he called The Originals. The opening event featured a stellar lineup of talent all performing, of course, only original compositions. During that epic “original Originals” concert, POL enlisted the future help of longtime SL music supporter Harrie Skjellerup.

I recently sat with POL and Harrie at her Pixel Hill music venue and we reminisced about the origins of this amazing and important concert series.

Positive Reviews of the new Tune Multiple Worlds are Flying in!!

Recently Slim Girl Fat (Slim Warrior inSL) and Brad Reason (Doubledown Tandino inSL) released a collaboration track entitled "Multiple Worlds."  The track has receive a phenomenal warm response filled with comments and praise.

"I like the keys at the top, they lend to a certain mystery that the track creates. I like how the song develops and keeps me interested. Good melodies, good loops, good sounds, good mix. Well done."

"I like the use of the synthesizer, I think this brings a unique qualtiy to the track. Additionally, the rhythm used is very choppy and bouncy and works to enhance the track by giving it an intricate extra layer. As a dance track I feel that this builds up gradually and works really well."

"Quite cool intro the music was very pretty with the musical instruments played very perfectly. The drum beat was good also."

"This is quite nice and relaxing- very ambient. It is a well arranged piece of music, and it sounds like a complete track."

"great song. Nice and chilled, making the perfect background music. Buildups and general structure are well done. Seriously reminds of beaches, summer and good times. Love it."

....There were over 60 comments and reviews on the tune received within just 48 hours of releasing the song!!  Thank you to everyone who has offered the support, feedback, and responses.
       -Doubledown & Slimmie

PS:  Music Video coming soon!!!  Details will be announced soon.

Video explains the world's most important 6-sec drum loop

From Wikipedia:
The "Amen break" was a brief drum solo performed in 1969 by Gregory Sylvester "G. C." Coleman.
The "Amen Break", "Amen", or imitations thereof, are frequently used as sampled drum loops in hip hop, jungle, breakcore and drum and bass music. It is 5.20 seconds long and consists of four bars of the drum-solo sampled from the song "Amen, Brother" as performed by the 1960s funk and soul outfit The Winstons. The song is an up-tempo instrumental rendition of an older gospel music classic. The Winstons' version was released as a B-side of the 45 RPM 7-inch vinyl single "Color Him Father" in 1969 on Metromedia (MMS-117), and is currently available on several compilations and on a 12-inch vinyl re-release together with other songs by The Winstons.

The Amen Break was used extensively in early hiphop and sample-based music, and became the basis for drum-and-bass and jungle music - "a six-second clip that spawned several entire subcultures"

The Making of a New Song (Part 1) by Zak Claxton

The Making of a New Song (Part 1)

by Zak Claxton

I've had a lot of people over the years ask me about my songwriting process, and I never feel like I have a good answer for them. I'm also not at all sure that my process of writing a song is like anyone else's. Songwriting is kind of a private affair, and it seems to me that even in the great collaborative teams (Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, Rodgers/Hammerstein and so on), you have one guy who's the lyricist and another guy that does the music. In cases where both people do both jobs, they rarely do them together. I know it's neat to imagine multiple people assembling this audible work of art, but even in those Beatles tunes that John and Paul actually worked on together, almost all of them had Paul writing the verse and chorus, and John contributing the bridge, or vice-versa. It's not like they were sitting together saying, "Ooh, make the next chord a G minor!" and so on. Ultimately, creativity is a solo gig, at least in the initial stage... a one-person deal.

Anyway, since I'm in the process of writing songs for the next album (even though the first one hasn't hit the streets yet), I thought I'd share what my version of songwriting is all about. By the way, while I hate the fact that I have to write this, everything you hear here is copyrighted by me, Zak Claxton. This blog post is date/time stamped, obviously, so don't get any funny ideas about borrowing this little tune. I do like to share; I don't like to get ripped off. Enough said.

1. The Idea...

Hit Song Science™ featured in
CBS’s TV series Numb3rs

Hit Song Science™ and the Music Universe™ power the uPlaya Artist Revolution.

“Online services have helped address the ‘availability’ problem for music, but consumers and artists are still frustrated by a lack of ‘visibility’ to easily connect great artists with potential fans,” “Music Intelligence Solutions’ Music Universe™ and Hit Song Science™ can solve the visibility problem better than any other technology that I have seen.” Chuck D, co-founder of Public Enemy, legendary artist, author and Internet entrepreneur.

Do you dream of a world without boundaries — where you can place your work before a huge audience, with no limits and no interference?

Hit Song Science™ provides immediate feedback on your song´s potential for commercial success and instant legitimization in the market for high-scoring music.
Do you want help choosing the best channels and markets for your music and which of your songs have the best chance for success?

The Music Universe™ helps you understand the hit potential of your songs within different markets and niches, and includes targeted promotional features to help your music gain visibility with audiences who already like your sound.

Our rating system gives you immediate feedback on the quality of your music, its competitive edge in the music industry, and its reception among professionals and music lovers.

For example, if your song receives a Gold or Platinum Audionaut Award (Auddy™), then the underlying musical patterns are similar to songs that have been hits in the past.

The Music Universe™ includes many languages and all genres from around the world. Ultimately, The Music Universe™ will analyze and catalog all music ever created and digitized.

Hit Song Science™ compares the sonic characteristics of your tracks against all the songs in the Music Universe™.
In the Music Universe™, hit songs tend to “cluster” (in terms of similarity), and the likely commercial success of new music is judged by its proximity to these constellations.

Music Intelligence Solutions’ patented algorithms analyze the fundamental characteristics of all music, such as brightness and tempo, and measures how they change over time. Often, these characteristics are perceived unconsciously by the listener, and the correct mix of parameters is more important than any individual parameter by itself.

Detecting Hit Potential and Music Trends

Artists use the Hit Song Science™ technology to compare their unreleased songs against hits of the past and present, allowing them to see how well their music fits into the current market as well as to identify potential hits.
The technology also spots new trends and highlights how new songs fit in with these new trends. So a song containing mathematical patterns that are becoming more prevalent in new trends is detected as having high hit potential.

HSS™ analyzes an album or song and provides multiple components of feedback: song ratings to assess hit potential, song ratings to assess “staying power” and “new trends potential”, affinity values vis-à-vis other artists, and information regarding album coherence.

Drew Carey's Reason.TV presents "Second Life - A Virtual Frontier"

SECOND LIFE - A VIRTUAL FRONTIER

Drew Carey takes us on a guided tour of Second Life (SL), a virtual world with more than 500,000 residents.

But SL isn’t your typical virtual world. Unlike other popular massively multiplayer online role-playing games, like EverQuest and World of Warcraft, there are no defined roles or objectives in SL. Just like in real life, SL residents determine their own goals and decide for themselves how best to achieve them. Moreover, virtually everything in SL was created by the residents themselves using tools provided by Linden Lab, the company that launched SL in 2003.

SL is based on a simple set of institutional arrangements that would make F.A. Hayek proud. In essence, the people who own the property in SL make the rules. The result is a spontaneously ordered world in which residents are free to fly, teleport, build, trade and interact with others without interference from the state.

Recently, Linden Lab—the SL equivalent of a state—has begun acting more and more like a real life government by restricting activities such as gambling. But open source competitors based on the SL platform are currently in development. so better virtual worlds offering even more freedom are just around the corner.

Did the Second Life Musicians save TheSixtyOne.com?

This is a hard story to follow. Its sort of complex. So, hopefully everyone involved can chime in my comments to add knowledge to this.

Here's the scoop the best I can explain it:

on Thesixtyone.com there are forums.
This was posted:
http://www.thesixtyone.com/#http://www.thesixtyone.com/forum/topic/1794/

This offended many of the users of SL that are also users of thesixtyone.
I, personally stated it here: IM DONE WITH THE61

But then I posted this thread on their forums:
http://www.thesixtyone.com/forum/topic/1820/
It's over 70 replies.... and all of the SL members of thesixtyone are already soured and have left. But I think I got the chance to hit a grand slam for us, which perhaps saved the fate of the website.

I don't know if there's any point now. I think the damage was done and Second Life residents are in most part not in support of thesixtyone anymore.... but I'm glad I got to leave with my mark. I think it was because of my final thread that the website removed their forums.
I don't want to take credit. It was a whole series of events, and I layed the icing on the cake at the right time.

So, its your decision if you want to continue to use thesixtyone or not. I am thrilled that I did receive a direct response and action from the webmasters. To me, that said a lot. I will see how thesixtyone site plays out. I'm not leaving, and maybe soon again I will be proud to promote the site... I think they are back on the right path.

ADDED FOOTNOTE: this is so confusing.... the cliff notes are:
SL musicians had a problem with thesixtyone
SLMC is a forum where I can post info and links
SLMC - That's the Second Life Music Community! AWESOME!!!!!!
...so it's confusing... I used links to posts on the SLMC forums in regards to thesixtyone.
... there is NOOO issue with SLMC.... this is all about thesixtyone.

Tribute to Lasse Gjertsen

The originator of this video editing beatmaking style is the legendary Youtube viral internet meme creator: Lasse Gjertsen

Lasse Gjertsen (born July 19, 1984) is a Norwegian animator, musician, and videographer known on YouTube as lassegg.[1] He is best known for his short pieces "Hyperactive" and "Amateur", which string together short clips of video to create a unique form of video akin to stop-motion animation. His "Hyperactive" video has over 10 million views.

The original:

Here's an amazing cover version from a young girl. She did excellent hitting the beats:

Here's an "Always Sunny in Philadelphia" promo utilizing the technique & also delivering a tip of the hat to Lasse:

And finally, I found this hysterical... If you get it.
This is showing what happens if you don't use the Lasse Stop-motion film-making technique
